The second annual graduation exhibition of the Bachelor of Arts in Applied and Media Arts programme was held in March this year. The “Chop a Thought” exhibition showcased creative works of the graduates, who were given complete freedom in their choice of communication medium and topics. These ranged from evoking collective memory to portraying daily life and dealing with controversial issues.

The organizing committee for the exhibition was formed by students and it thought up the theme “Chop a Thought”, which invited visitors to play an active role by providing their comments whilst viewing the exhibits.The exhibition not only allowed students to express themselves freely, but also enabled them to connect with their audience.

主題名為“Chop a Thought” 的第二屆應用及媒體藝術文學士畢業生作品展於今年三月舉行。會上參展的作品表現出應屆畢業生的創作才華。今次展覽讓同學們自由發揮,在媒體及題材上均沒有限制。眾作品當中包羅引發集體記憶、反映現實生活及觸及具爭議性話題的題材,內容非常豐富。

這次作品展覽由同學們自組籌委會並構思展覽主題為“Chop a Thought”,讓參觀人士就學生作品提供意見,以促進不斷改進與精益求精的創意精神。這次展覽讓參展的同學們透過藝術表達自我,更可與觀眾交流和聯繫,讓觀眾積極參與。

       

Miss Veronica Cheng used the traditional thread and needle to put toward “Needlework” which praised maternal love and the importance of family values.

鄭仲欣以傳統的縫紉手法,代替電子科技,創作“Needlework”,以表揚母愛及正確的家庭觀念。

Mr Keith Lun produced his 80-page “Slow” magazine including its concept, content, photographs and layout on his own. His artwork truly reflects his focus and talent. “Since my classmates came from varied backgrounds, we were able to integrate our individual strengths and motivate one another.”

倫嘉堯認為修讀這課程的其中一項最大得益,是能認識到一班來自不同背景,擁有不同專長的同學,並能發揮互相推動的作用。他的作品「曼雜誌」,共有八十頁。當中的概念、內容、相片以至排版,全由他一手負責,足見他的心思與才華。

       

Miss Amy Sze felt much fulfilment through working with a variety of media during her study. “Cotton” featured family ties and love through a 6-minute animation. In addtion to production technique, this work required an outpouring of patience and creativity.

施小玲亦同意此課程使她有機會接觸到不同的媒體,得到很大的滿足感。她的作品「木棉花」透過長達六分鐘的動畫去表達親情。無論在技術、耐性及創意上都是一種挑戰。

Miss Mong Tung created a nostalgic brand called “Republic of Old Biscuit” with the purpose of capturing and preserving the unique local culture and characteristics. The brand was presented through a variety of graphic designs, product designs as well as advertisement creatives.

董淑明的作品以保育香港文化及特色為題,利用平面及產品設計、廣告等媒體,創作出「老餅共和國」的品牌,希望可以令參觀人士重溫昔日情懷。

       

Mr Kanas Leung's work titled “I, this is not ‘me'” was inspired by the French Philosopher, Michel Foucault, and featured the creative use of photographs to illustrate a person's disparate behaviour in community and when alone.

梁天任的作品 “I, this is not ‘me' ”,靈感來自法國哲學家傅柯考有關「我,不是本體的我」的理論。梁天任靈活地運用相片來表達一個人獨處時的行為表現跟平時可能截然不同。

   

Applied and Media Arts student, Mr Lam Hon Pong's art piece, “Battle of Beauty” was chosen to be exhibited at the 5th International Art Festival “Chania 2007" in July. The festival is one of the largest annual art exhibitions in Chania as well as in Greece.

Lam, whose work focuses on mystery and supernatural beauty, is meticulous and passionate about precision and perfection. Most of Lam's works are designed with complexity in composition, and depict large groups of figures.

應用及媒體藝術系學生林漢邦的作品「美之戰爭」獲選為今年於希臘幹尼亞舉行的第五屆國際藝術節的參展作品。這項國際藝術節是希臘及幹尼亞一年一度最大規模的藝術盛會之一。

林同學追求完美,講究細緻, 作品題材表現神秘及超自然美。他的作品多數以較複雜形式,描繪出群組體態。



SPEED sets up two scholarships to help students experience the different cultures outside Hong Kong and to widen their life perspectives. The Cultural Exchange Scholarship for the Chinese Mainland and the International Summer School Scholarship enable students to work in China and pursue their studies overseas respectively.

Patsi Yu, a recipient of the International Summer School Scholarship, is a current student in the Bachelor of Arts in Marketing and Public Relations programme. She said, “I am so thankful to SPEED for awarding me with this scholarship as this allows me to study overseas during summer. I will have an excellent opportunity to experience the culture of a foreign country.”

Amongst the recipients of Cultural Exchange Scholarship for the Chinese Mainland is Chloe Chong, a Bachelor of Arts in Business (International Business) student. “Beijing is China's capital city and it has experienced rapid economic growth in recent years. I hope that through this cultural exchange and internship opportunity, I can get to know Beijing better,” Chloe remarked, knowing that such an experience will contribute invaluably to her personal development and future career.

SPEED設立國際暑期學習獎學金及中國文化交流獎學金,讓同學在暑假期間到海外進修及內地實習,增廣見聞,擴闊國際視野。

今次獲國際暑期學習獎學金的同學之一余佩詩是市場營銷及公共關係文學士的學生。她表示這次機會十分難得:「獎學金讓我們到海外大學去交流,除了可以選讀暑期課程,最重要是可以了解當地文化。十分感謝SPEED給我這個難得的機會。」

獲得中國文化交流獎學金的同學之一莊萍茹是就讀商業文學士(國際商業)的學生。她表示:「北京是中國的首都,近年來經濟發展迅速,希望藉這次北京文化交流及實習的機會,讓我們能夠切實地感受到北京的都市環境。」莊同學期望這些寶貴的經驗,對她將來投身社會,會有很大的助益。

Applied and Media Arts student, Mr Dio Wong, was awarded 2nd runner-up in the "Bridging Arts: Public Art Design Competition." The aim of the competition was to highlight the unique character of the Wanchai Bridge through its integration with public art.

Wong's winning work, "Voice Shocking", hopes to convey the freedom of speech and to illustrate interpersonal communication. The art piece features an iron rod fitted with an undulating red fluorescent light linking the Bridge. There is also a paper cup sculpture at each end of the iron bar. The artwork reflects the voices of protest. The graphics within the bridge depicted the various historical milestones in Hong Kong, while the bridge itself represents the medium through which different messages were transmitted.

應用及媒體藝術系學生黃耀霖參加「尋橋:公共藝術設計比賽」獲得季軍,其作品「聲音波動」希望表達言論自由及人與人之間的溝通。他利用一條螢光紅色高低起伏的鐵棒貫穿天橋的兩側及頂部,而棒的兩端也各有一個紙杯雕塑,代表著遊行時眾人士一條聲線。天橋內的設計圖像記錄了香港過去的種種大事,反映了香港人的歷史,而天橋所代表的是乘載著不同信息的輸送帶。
