The past year was another flourishing year for SPEED. We have recognized continuous development and new initiatives at SPEED over the past years. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the contribution from all our colleagues at SPEED in particular Dr Dennis Chan, former Director of SPEED.
In December last year, our students and graduates have experienced some unforgettable moments in the festive season. Lord Stevens, Chancellor of Northumbia University, came to Hong Kong and presented over 400 graduates with their degrees from Northumbia University at SPEED.
In addition, around 100 students from the Preparatory Programme for LLB, University of London External Programme gathered to share their experience of studying at SPEED. Ms Mary Luckham, Assistant Director of External Laws Programme of University of London, Dr Simon Coldham, Programme Advisor for Kemayan Advance Teritary College (KATC) and Intech Training Centre (ITC), Preparatory Programme for Bachelor of Laws (LLB) of University of London, and Dr Danny Choong, Director & Deputy CEO of KATC have participated in the gathering to make the event even more meaningful.
During the same month, the School hosted a gala dinner to express our gratitude to our industry partners and update them on our latest developments. Our partners have shared and exchanged their ideas on continuing education during the gathering. I am sure we will continue to work closely in the coming years.
As we enter 2007, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to all our friends and partners for their valuable support.
We have participated in the Education and Careers Expo, our first major event this year, co-organized by the Trade Development Council and Labour Department. The Expo has received overwhelming response from over 190,000 visitors. We have provided the latest information on our high quality academic programmes to all interested parties.
In the coming months, we are going to organize a range of activities for our students, namely “Professional Talk” series, “Career Workshops”, “Summer Scholarships” and “Visits to Corporation”, in order to enrich their campus life and to extend their learning beyond the classroom.
Information sessions for our programmes leading to PolyU SPEED academic awards and Overseas academic awards will be hosted on 14 and 21 April 2007 respectively at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University campus.
We have also launched “Business Innovation Award 2007” with the support from EDUplus.com.hk for Higher Diploma and Associate Degree students to compete for scholarships awarded by PolyU SPEED. We hope that, through the participation in the competition, students will be equipped to handle future challenges along their career path ahead.
I am confident that we will continue to strive for our best to enhance our programmes for the long-term benefits of our students and the society at large.

香港理工大學專業進修學院近年不斷發展，屢創新猷，去年亦如往年一樣，在各方面獲得豐盛成果。我謹此向各位同事致意，特別是前院長陳淑燊博士所作的貢獻。
去年12月，我們的畢業生及學生均經歷了一個難忘的聖誕。在英國諾桑比亞大學於本院舉辦課程的學位頒授儀式上，諾桑比亞大學校監Lord Stevens出席，並頒發學位予逾四百名畢業生。
此外，學院為修讀法律學士學位備試課程的同學舉辦聚會，有約一百名學生參與，分享他們在學院學習的心得。倫敦大學校外法律課程副總監Mary Luckham女士、Kemayan Advance Tertiary College (KATC) 及 Intech Training Centre (ITC)倫敦大學法律學士學位備試課程顧問Simon Coldham博士與及KATC總監及行政總裁Danny Choong博士亦有出席，令是次活動更有意義。
學院亦於同月內舉辦聯歡晚宴，以答謝本院的工商界合作夥伴，並介紹本院的最新發展情況。各參加者得以在是項活動中分享及交流大家對專業教育的意見。我深信本院日後將繼續與各界人士保持密切聯繫。
踏入2007年，我謹此對各界友好的支持致以最衷心的謝意。
今年，本院首項大型活動是參加由香港貿易發展局與勞工處合辦的教育及職業博覽。是項展覽反應熱烈，共吸引超過190,000參觀者，我們藉著是項活動向各參觀者提供本院各高質素課程的最新資訊。
在未來的數個月內，我們將舉辦各類課外活動，加強學生在課堂以外的學習機會，令他們的校園生活更充實，活動包括「專業有道」講座系列、職業專題講座、暑期獎學金計劃及企業考察活動。
本院亦將於2007年4月14及21日在香港理工大學校園舉辦諮詢日，介紹理大專業進修學院學銜之課程及海外大學學銜之課程。
另外，為了讓全港高級文憑課程及副學士的學生發揮所長，學院聯同 EDUplus.com.hk，舉辦「全港高級文憑及副學士學生商業創意大賽2007」，得獎者將獲獎學金，修讀可獲頒發理大專業進修學院學銜之課程，我們希望藉此機會為參賽者日後的事業發展打下重要根基。
我相信本院將一如過往，全力以赴，提昇各項課程的質素，為各學生以至整個社會的長遠利益作出貢獻。
