I am Peony Law On Ni, a SPEED graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Marketing and Public Relations (MPR). Since my graduation in 2006, I have been working in a telecommunications company as a Marketing Assistant.

My job entails assisting the General Manager in coordinating, monitoring and approving marketing campaigns, including new product or service launch, and customer retention programme. As for my daily duties, they include preparing marketing proposals, monitoring competitors' news and advertisements, and arranging internal and external meetings. Given the opportunity to work with different marketing teams, I have been able to take on a variety of tasks and challenges.

Although my previous study may not be directly related to my job, my background knowledge of marketing has enhanced my adaptability and productivity. This is particularly an important training for crisis management. The problem-solving skills I have learnt from SPEED come in handy. People skills are also essential to my work. My experience as a committee member of Chit-Chat MPR (Class association of MPR) at SPEED has given me the chance to hone my communication skills.

As I have just started out on my career, there is a lot for me to learn. I find the knowledge learnt in SPEED very useful and relevant to my work and I look forward to further development in marketing as my future career.

Throughout the course of my study, I was particularly interested in professional packaging design and found the ‘form is function’ principle most inspiring. Having typography as my favourite subject, I was thrilled to study the revolution in typography and get to know some Japanese typography design gurus.

As for design practice, I have not only attempted experimental projects and commissions, but have also learnt much about business management and marketing technique in the process.

Even before I completed my study at SPEED, I had planned to set up a design company and create my own brand. My final-year project was on the theme “ Post-Family” and I obtained a pass with credit.

Immediately after graduation in mid May 2006, I set up my own company, known as Lucosa Company, with my own brand, Folk Frame. My dream really comes true.

Speaking from my own experience, Bachelor of Arts in Applied and Media Arts offered by SPEED is definitely the best choice for those with a keen interest in design and are ambitious to become professional designers.

My name is Raymond Chau. I graduated from the three-year part-time Bachelor of Arts in Applied and Media Arts programme in 2006. Although it was difficult to juggle work and study, I managed to attend my classes and finish all my assignments on time. I was also happy to be able to meet a lot of interesting people with different design backgrounds.

Currently I am working in the creative department of an advertising agency. We have six creative teams to handle different clients, and my team is the one dealing with our clients on a regional basis.

Over the last three years of my studies under this programme, I have had the chance to deepen my knowledge of graphic design and gain exposure to different media like video, motion graphics, and interactive installation. I have also got to work with other classmates in group projects. In the process I learned how to see the bigger picture by being involved in a project from start to finish, and how to liaise with different people with different skills to achieve the same goal. Most importantly, the programme has helped me understand the power of creativity by teaching me how design ideas can be transformed into a powerful force that drives our economy, and what a significant role creative industry can play in enabling Hong Kong to stay competitive in Asia Pacific and even in the world.
