On 1 September 2006, at the Student Orientation, the new students of SPEED Award Programmes were welcomed by the management from both The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and SPEED. With the beginning of the new academic year, the editorial board hopes our students will not only enjoy their studies at SPEED but will also participate actively in the events organized by the School.

2006年9月1日，專業進修學院學銜課程的新生出席了由香港理工大學與學院管理層代表主持的新生歡迎儀式。新學年開始，編輯委員會謹藉此機會祝願各同學盡情享受在學院的學習生活，並積極參加學院的各項活動。

On 17 and 18 October 2006, nearly 500 graduates who have successfully completed PolyU SPEED Award Programmes attended the 2006 Graduation Ceremony. Graduation Day is not only a memorable occasion for both the graduates and their families, but more importantly, marks the beginning of another new page of our graduates' life.

2006年10月17及18日，近500名修畢理大專業進修學院的各項學銜課程的同學參加了2006年度畢業典禮。畢業禮不單是畢業同學及其家人的大日子，更標誌一畢業同學人生另一階段的起點。

On 7 December 2006, SPEED welcomed Lord Stevens, Chancellor of Northumbria University, to present the degree awards to graduates from the Northumbria University programmes offered through SPEED. Over 400 students graduated from the university's programmes in Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Business Management, Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Human Resource Management and Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Logistics and Supply Chain Management. That was the first Graduation Ceremony organized exclusively for the students of the above programmes in SPEED.

2006年12月7日，專業進修學院邀得英國諾桑比亞大學校長Lord Stevens為畢業生主持該校與學院在港合辦課程的學位頒授儀式。這屆畢業生共逾四百名，修畢英國諾桑比亞大學工商管理(榮譽)文學士課程、人力資源管理(榮譽)文學士課程，及物流與供應鏈管理(榮譽)文學士課程的學生。這次畢業禮是SPEED首屆專為以上課程的畢業生而舉辦的學位頒授儀式。

On 6 December 2006, Lord Stevens, Chancellor of Northumbria University, and the management team from Newcastle Business School greeted the graduates who studied for their Northumbria degrees at SPEED. Over the past four years, more than 1,000 graduates completed programmes of Northumbria University at SPEED in either part-time or full-time modes.

2006年12月6日，英國諾桑比亞大學校長Lord Stevens偕Newcastle Business School管理層代表會見了該校經專業進修學院提供的學位課程畢業生。過去四年來此課程（包括全日制及兼讀制）之畢業生已超過一千名。

28 students from the Bachelor of Arts in Travel Industry Management programme boarded the Star Pisces for a site inspection on 12 October 2006

The inspection gave the students a chance to synthesize their subject knowledge in Cruise Line Management with their real-life experience.

The students were also able to learn firsthand how a cruise ship operates, e.g. in the restaurants or at the Captain's Bridge, and check out the various cabins and facilities on board. All the participating students enjoyed such a great experience.

是次考察給予同學一次將學科知識與實際生活體驗相結合的機會。

各同學也藉此機會進入郵輪餐廳或船長橋樓，並參觀各船艙及各項船上設施，親身瞭解郵輪實際上如何操作。所有參與同學都大開眼界，樂在其中。

In the summer of 2006, four of our BA in Applied Sociology students took part in the China Science and Technology Summer Training Programme and went on home visits to a three-generation family of veteran professors and government officials as well as families of ordinary local citizens.

Through arrangements by the China Association for Science and Technology, our students were received by 32 university student volunteers from 17 mainland schools. The harmonious mix of our students with their mainland, Taiwan and Macau counterparts during the learning activities and weekend sightseeing tours in the programme has been conducive to cultivating a global perspective in the participating students. This also motivated them to learn. Our students have also gained invaluable insights through the home visits.

2006年暑假，四名應用社會學文學士的同學參加了中國科協青少年科技中心（中國科協）的“紫荊計劃”活動。本屆家訪的對象為資深教授、資深公務員三代共同生活的家庭和一般當地家庭。

中國科協安排了由北京大學等17所學校的32名大學生義工接待各同學。各義工與來自港、澳、台的同學一起參與實習活動，而且與同學於週末一同遊覽名勝。兩岸四地大學生的融合，擴大了實習生的視野，提升了學生參與的興趣。此外，家訪活動亦令各學生感受良多。
