Professor Ray Pine was appointed as visiting fellow at SPEED in May. He is in charge of promoting the School's mentorship scheme, which provides advice and guidance to new and junior teaching staff.

5月份，SPEED邀得彭禮文教授擔任客座學人一職，負責推行「友導計劃」，為年資較淺和新入職導師，提供意見及指引。

Prof. Pine has more than 40 years' experience in the hotel and catering industry. He has also been teaching at various universities for 26 years. His scope of work covers hotel and tourism development in China, technology transfer within the hotel and tourism industry, issues of human resources and service quality, as well as leadership and management changes in the industry.

Prof. Pine previously taught at PolyU's School of Hotel and Tourism Management for 16 years and served as Head of Department for three years. With his extensive teaching and research experiences, Prof. Pine will surely be a great asset to the School.

彭教授擁有超過40年酒店及餐飲業經驗，其中26年更在多家大學任教，主要研究包括中國酒店及旅遊業發展、酒店/旅遊業之科技轉移/人力資源/服務質素問題、以及酒店/旅遊業的領導管理。

彭教授曾任教香港理工大學酒店及旅遊業管理學院16年，亦曾任該學院部門主任達3年之久。憑藉他豐富的教育及研究經驗，相信彭教授必能令一眾教員獲益不少。
 
Northumbria University, Newcastle, UK 英國紐卡素的諾桑比亞大學

I visited Northumbria University for a second time this summer. Below are pictures that I took during my trip:

The "Millennium Bridge" is a major development of the Quayside area. Visitors can view nearby sceneries from the bridge.
「千禧橋」是Quayside區的主要發展項目，遊人可在橋上欣賞附近景色。
World Cup 2006 2006 世界盃

I was in Lille on 10 July this year. The city was bustling with excitement as the citizens cheered for their national team France, a finalist in the World Cup. Many shops and restaurants either closed earlier or did not open for business for the day. More than 20,000 people flooded the city's stadium, which broadcast the match between France and Italy on two enormous screens. I saw a sea of national flags under a magnificent display of fireworks in the stadium. Unfortunately, France lost to Italy.

2006年7月10日，我身在里爾，見證著法國國家足球隊昂然進入世界盃決賽，整個城市彌漫著一片興奮的氣氛。全城準備就緒，商店和餐廳要麼關門一天，要麼提早休息。逾20,000名觀眾湧到里爾的運動場，從場內兩個大螢幕收看法國對意大利的決賽。煙花盛放，法國國旗迎風飄揚，只可惜法國最終不幸落敗。

Lille is a French city famous for its cultural life and tranquility.

里爾是法國名城之一，既寧靜又洋溢文化氣息。

Shops are closed on Sundays. During weekdays, they are open for 7 hours only. You can often see locals enjoying cups of coffee during mornings
這裡的店舖每逢星期日都休息，其餘日子每天亦只營業7小時。早上細嚐一杯美味咖啡是大多數居民的習慣。

France has many coffee shops, which serve as gathering joints for locals
法國到處均是咖啡店，吸引很多人在內暢聚。

"Mussels" – stir-fried with garlic, butter and white wine – is a famous French dish.
「青口」是法國名菜之一，以蒜蓉、牛油和白酒烹調，味道無以尚之。
 

I have been teaching at SPEED for two years now. In June, I took a long vacation to Western Europe and visited cities, such as France, Italy, Netherland, Belgium and Germany. During the trip, I have visited almost every museum and church that I could find. Out of the cities I visited, Paris is my favourite. I highly recommend Musee du Louvre where you can appreciate two famous works of art, "Venus de Milo" and "Mona Lisa".

我加入SPEED任教已2年了，乘長假之便，6月份我跑到了西歐，包括法國、意大利、荷蘭、比利時和德國等地遊覽。我幾乎參觀了所有的博物館和教堂。而在眾多的遊覽城市中，我最喜歡巴黎。羅浮宮令人嘆為觀止，遊客絕不應錯過兩幅驚世鉅作－維納斯女神與蒙羅麗莎。

Your Paris trip would not be complete without a visit to the Eiffel Tower.
You can see the whole city's skyline on the top floor.
不曾到艾菲爾鐵塔觀光，又怎算到過巴黎呢？
在塔頂你可俯瞰整個巴黎市的景色。
The Eiffel Tower is another incredible architecture that has become a symbol of Paris. When I took the elevator to the top of the tower, I had a full view of the city's skyline. The scenery was breathtaking! If you know Paris well enough, you can even spot the City's landmarks such as the Sacre Coeur, L'arc de triomphe, and the Louvre.

艾菲爾鐵塔是另一個令人讚嘆不已的建築物，更是巴黎的標誌。當我乘升降機至塔頂，整個城市的景觀盡現眼前，好不壯觀。如你對巴黎有足夠的認識，更可在塔頂認出聖心教堂、巴黎凱旋門及羅浮宮等地標。


I recommend visitors to pay another visit to the Eiffel Tower at night (after 10:00pm) when the twinkle lights are on. This is when you can experience the romantic and glamorous side of the Eiffel tower.

我建議大家可在晚上10時後，燈亮了再到艾菲爾鐵塔觀光，屆時你會看到巴黎浪漫而充滿魅力的一面，感覺跟日間的完全不一樣。
