Sandy Chau was initially trained as an economist and got her Bachelor and Master Degree from the University of Alberta, Canada (1979-84). Her experience in the Hong Kong Stock market dated back to 1970s, when she worked part-time at the Brokerage Firm where her mother is the Licensed Stock Broker. At 18, Sandy became an Authorized Trader at the Kowloon Stock Exchange, later merged as Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

From 1995 to 2002, Sandy pursued her Ph.D in finance at the Hong Kong Baptist University. Her area of research is in the performance of H-Shares and Red Chip. Part of her Ph.D. research work had been published in Journal of Banking Finance & Accounting in 2003.

Currently she writes a weekly column on Behavior Finance in the Hong Kong Economic Journal. Since 2007, Sandy research focus is on Post Earning Announcement Drift. She has another research project with Professor Yu Ziyou from Lingnan University on Studying the Trading Preferences of Individual Investors in China.

After working in the banking and the advertising industries in HK for a short period, Sandy launched her career as full-time faculty at the Hong Kong Lingnan University from 1987- 2002. Since 2002, Sandy joined SPEED and teaches subjects in Economics, Management and Finance. Her current administrative duty is the program leader for BA in Policing and Public Order at SPEED. At present, she is the External Examiner of IVE for Higher Diploma and Diploma in Financial Planning and Investment and the External Advisor for the Chinese University-Tung Wah Community College.

Sandy is the HKCAA subject specialist for accreditation activities and implementation of Qualification Framework (QF). Since 2007, Sandy was invited to serve as external advisor for another Community College in Hong Kong.

Sandy¡¦s linkage with the commercial sectors is reflected by her role as advisor in the following trade associations: The Cosmetic and Perfumery Association of HK Ltd; Hong Kong Hair and Beauty Merchants Association; International Professional Nail Therapists Association.
