K. F. Lau has about thirty years working experience, of which, twenty years have been dedicated to teaching at tertiary level (undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland) and training for leading business firms. From 2000 to 2003, he was seconded to become Director of Student Services Centre of Lingnan University where he devoted his time for student services and development. He was a recipient of Teaching Excellent Awards in 1998 and Dr and Mrs James Tak Wu Awards for Outstanding Service of the Lingnan University in 2006. He joined SPEED of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University on 2 January 2007.

Before involving himself in teaching and training, he was Director and General Manager for a garment firm in Hong Kong with production in China. He has extensive hands-on experience working with large and small business in a capacity as executive, (e.g. Jardines, Hong Kong Jockey Club), consultant and advisor (e.g. Sun Hung Kai Properties Ltd., Christian Action, Tuen Mun District Council), trainer (e.g. Eagle Star Insurance, Export Credit Insurance Council) and owner-manager (e.g. Antonhill Co. Ltd. ¡V a garment and uniform company).

Apart from teaching, training, and academic research, K. F. spends quite some time on community service, application research and consultancy. He believes that business teachers should not work in the ivory tower. He is also a faithful supporter of continuous learning and lifelong education.

He holds membership of various professional bodies including American Marketing Association, Academy of International Business, Chartered Institute of Marketing, Chartered Management Institute, and Hong Kong Institute of Marketing.
