Ms. Law Shing Mo-han Yvonne, National Chief Knowledge Officer & Partner at Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu stated that people in all industries should equip yourself to raise your own professional standards and the competitiveness of the company

SPEED 與英國University of Wales 合辦的Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Business Accounting

Professional Education Keeps You on Top of the Tides

In the previous issue, Ms. Brenda Lam, Head of Learning and Development of ACCA Hong Kong, mentioned that large local companies and multinational companies require candidates to have accounting degrees and internationally recognised qualifications. Under the financial tsunami, how are the current accountants doing?

Ms. Law Shing Mo-han Yvonne, National Chief Knowledge Officer & Partner at Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu said, "The financial crisis has adversely affected every industry to a certain extent. Apparently, the accounting industry has been hit but the actual influence on accounting practitioners is comparatively less devastating. Professional accounting knowledge comprises a wide spectrum of areas. Accountants who are equipped with multiple accounting know-hows are now applying their multiple knowledge and skills to various areas within an accounting firm and such practice is one of the cost-saving measures of the firm. For instance, the same accountant can handle liquidation and debt relief projects during recession and acquisition and merger projects when the market rebounds. It is also common for accounting staff to change to other business sectors as accountants."

From her years of client services and related human resource management experience, Yvonne suggested, "Whether you are in the profession of accounting or not, it is essential to keep up your competitive edge as well as that of your serving organisation. Recently, I suggest keeping an eye on areas like computer auditing skills and risk management. Professional education is always important to employers when seeking for competent candidates, during rising or falling tides. Multi-national corporations or listed companies expect that their employees will acquire these knowledge to minimise the risk of the enterprise in the economic crises and help the company to make long-term and effective decisions."

The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Business Accounting offered by SPEED in collaboration with University of Wales, UK is recognised by several professional accounting organisations, including ACCA, CIMA and AIA. This programme is designed to meet the manpower needs of accounting industry.
